The Wong Way Down – Edgy Modern Swing

The Wong Way Down is an edgy and artistic swing band from Hong Kong that performs fast paced, high energy, original jazz music. WWD consists a motley crew of some of Hong Kong’s most prolific professional musicians with a wide range of backgrounds including members of HK Philharmonic, RubberBand and alumni of Berklee College of Music, Juliard and Musicians Institute.

WWD is led by Lamma Studios’ resident drum artist Nate Wong [link his name to his artist page] who is a Berklee Graduate, drummer of indie up comers Nowhere Boys, crossover jazz supergroup Dock in Absolute and has performed with some of Asia’s toured and performed with many of Asia’s most influential musicians such as Eugene Pao, Ted Lo, Sammi Cheng, Wei Xiang Tan, Yin Ng and Kajeng Wong, Tien Ching and many others.

Formed in 2014, the band has a rich performance history and for over two years hosted the best jazz jam session in Asia at Peel Fresco Music Lounge. As as result the band has developed a large network of guest members and extended family comprising some of Asia’s best musical talent, including pianist Wei Tan from Singapore, saxophonist Yu Hagiwara and pianist Yukako Yamano from Japan, pianist John Dip Silas from Malaysia, trombonist Terence Hseih from China and many others. The band has has performed in the HK International Jazz Festival, Zhuhai Music Festival, Guangzhou Opera House, Ecuador Jazz Festival, several Freespace Happenings and collaborated with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta in 2017.

In 2017 WWD released it’s debut album produced by Lamma Studios entitled Aint’ Nothin’ Wrong, which is a collection of original modern jazz composed by Nate Wong and Callum MacKenzie. For more on the band including booking please contact info@lammastudios.com
