Farley Sangels

Lamma Studios’ founder Farley Sangels is a multi-talented, multi-instrumental, multi-genre musical missionary with a wealth of experience in and love for the whole musical universe.

Currently Farley lives in beautiful Ocean View on the magical island of Hawai’i and performs regularly as trumpeter-keyboardist of the Jazz Gardeners, producer and multi-instrumentalist with electro-shamanic duo Spark of Spirit and is the Director of Lamma Studios. He serves as Artistic Director and Conductor of the Chamber Orchestra of Kona and the South Hawai’i Symphony, and as Music Director of the Soul Sphere interfaith spiritual gathering.

Previous to his musical liberation, Farley performed with many of the world’s greatest artists in the best venues during his 21 year career as a “full time” orchestral musician, culminating in a six year tenure as Principal Trumpet of the Hong Kong Philharmonic. With that ensemble he toured the world, performing in the world’s great concert halls and excelling in the high-pressure environment of the top level of the orchestral performance standard.

Meanwhile Farley always also enjoyed expanding his musical horizons and keeping his sanity with a parallel career as a creative musician, improvisor and contemporary musician, playing jazz in more than 25 countries and playing in an uncountable number of jazz, rock, funk, Latin, electronic and other bands. Farley also had a very interesting brief time working as a top commercial musician in the Asia-Pacific region after his retirement from the orchestra.

Specializing in all good music, Farley performed regularly with many groups in Hong Kong as the string bassist and trumpeter for Café 852, U-Bassist and trumpeter for Acoufunkture, bassist and lead singer for Farley’s Angels, trumpeter of the modern jazz groups Wong Way Down and NTBM, trumpeter and vocalist for gypsy Orleans jazz ensemble La Résistance, and founding member of the One Love, FSM and 2084 New Age ensembles. He also produced and engineered recordings for all of those ensembles.

Farley began working as an audio engineer and producer in 2008 and has since produced an impressive portfolio of recordings both of his own original music and of others. He is committed to making the world a better place through producing lots of music of consciousness, grace and quality composed by himself and others.

Farley loves to connect with audiences and his homespun humor and wit make his onstage interactions with band and audience entertaining and engaging. Farley’s love for all things musical also makes him a natural choice as an educator. Farley loves to jam with anyone, especially kids, and Farley loves to bring music to the people. He is the creator of the “You Too Can Play Music, the Ten Principles” e-learning series and believes everyone can be a musician.
