Lamma Studios’ resident violin virtuoso is Felix Tham. Acclaimed for his fearless playing style, powerful singing violin tone and improvisational virtuosity, Felix started learning the violin at age 5 and shortly thereafter began studying under the great pedagogue Professor Lin Yao Ji of the Central Conservatory of Music.
Garnering a bevy of local music competition awards, Felix was chosen to represent Hong Kong at the Tochigi Music Festival in Japan as a soloist at age 13. At school and at university, Felix continued to perform extensively as a soloist and ensemble musician.
After his studies abroad, Felix put his violin on hiatus to focus on his legal career. During this time he was introduced to and fell in love with hard rock, and formed the band “Rough Justice” as its bassist and backing vocalist. In recent years, through his association with pop jazz funk Acoufunkture, folk tango outfit Cafe 852 and indy “book rock” singer Jing Wong, Felix’s experimentation and exposure to ever-expanding genres has resulted in his reunion and the rekindling of his passion with his violin, constantly finding and delighting in different sounds and combinations with his lifelong partner.
When he’s not lawyering or playing violin, Felix is a recording artist, entrepreneur, musical philanthropist and a self-proclaimed bon vivant, basking in the wonders and experiences that life has to offer.
