Conclusion to the Ten Principles Course

Congratulations and Thank You!

Congratulations! You have successfully finished this course and taken some big steps forward in your journey of realizing your potential as a creative and expressive musician. Take a moment to congratulate yourself on what you have accomplished here and the new skills and understanding you have developed.

The work of discovering music and expressing our true musical selves is a lifetime project. The more we discover about music the more we see there is yet to discover. This is the beauty of music; we never need to stop learning.

As we finish this project, let’s do a few final exercises to get a better idea of how far we have come and to see where the road ahead may lead.

Concluding Exercise A: End-of-course re-evaluation.

Now is a good time to do an end-of-course re-evaluation. This is a repeat of the evaluation we did at the beginning of the course. Please print out and fill out this self-evaluation as we did in the introductory module.

Compare your evaluations from the beginning and end. What has changed about you as a musician? How much and in what ways did you improve? In which areas did you improve the most and which areas would you still like to improve?

Concluding Exercise B: End-of-course self-recording.

Finally make another recording of yourself as you did in the introductory module. Play as much as you like, but it doesn’t have to be a lot.

Compare your recording from the introductory module to today’s recording. What differences do you hear and feel in your musicianship between the two performances? What sounds the most improved? What would you still like to improve? For the areas that you still would like to make more progress in, are there relevant principles in this course that you could revisit?

Concluding Exercise C: Think about your future in music.

Take some time to contemplate your future as a musician. Where would you like to go next with your music? Where do you see yourself as a musician in the future? This is an excellent time to revisit your personal musical mission statement from Principle 1 and make some more revisions.

Thank You!

Thank you again for participating in this project! I hope it has helped you a lot and that you enjoyed the experience. I suggest you continue to use this course as a resource and from time to time come back and do again the exercises. The principles and exercises from this course will be of use and relevant for as long as you play music.

I am very interested in your feedback, questions, and suggestions on this course. I also would be very interested in hearing your personal stories and hearing your music.
