One Love Album Release- Mantras and Incantations, Vol 1

Lamma Studios released One Love’s album entitled Mantras and Incantations, Volume 1 on November 17, 2017. This album is the result of a lot of love and some hard work. This is powerful stuff and we have almost created a new genre with this creative and different approach to mantra music.

Mantras are ancient tools for healing and spiritual development and in the course of working on this album I became convinced of their power to transform and uplift.

“Welcome!”

Welcome all to One Love! This album is a celebration of spirit, magic, love and life. We are so happy to make this music for you, no matter who you are, where you come from, what you believe, or anything else. You are welcome! It’s so easy to feel out of place these days, or not in the right group, not in the right time. So take these few minutes and just enjoy feeling welcome in this sacred and safe healing space of One Love.

This track is our original mantra, “Welcome” and is in a afro-funk style, featuring all the voices of One Love and anchored by Kaze’s lead vocals and big heart. G-Creature’s funky guitar, Farley’s trumpet and the voices of Seraphim, Paramgian, and Miriam are all here to welcome you to our hearts.

“Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo”

This mantra comes to us from the Sikh and Kundalini yoga tradition, and is also known as the Adi Mantra. One translation is “I bow to the All-That-Is, I bow to the Divine Wisdom inside myself”. This is the first mantra we do in Kundalini yoga practice and is a good mantra to use for safety, to ensure a safe journey.

This mantra connects us with gurus and teachers throughout the ages and to the guru living deep inside ourselves. If we can learn to connect to all the incredible wisdom living deep inside ourselves, we can live in harmony with ourselves and the universe.

Today, there is so much separating us from our true inner wisdom- so much past karma, distractions, lies, and human and personal habit. To find our inner guru requires patience and much diligent work. This is represented in our performance of this mantra which is inspired by African-American plantation work songs and early blues. Featuring Miriam Ma’s bluesy vocals, G-Creature’s Delta blues guitar, claps, and chorus, this is a soulful way to help us dig deep to find our inner wisdom.

“Om Hari Om”

This mantra brings the energy of the Indian god Hari, who is also known as “The Remover”. It is believed that chanting his name asks Hari to remove fear, pain, confusion, doubt, sin, bad karma and any other blockages that stand in our way of peace and enlightenment. Our version is for choir, reflecting the multitude of people on Earth who desire relief from their suffering and confusion, with a pulse that grows stronger as the mantra gains strength.

This mantra is partly about giving up control. The idea that we can fix everything and control everything causes much suffering among humans today, and is of course impossible. Instead we must look to higher forces for our deliverance, in this case Hari. So when using this mantra, try to let go of control and let Hari’s energy work to remove your obstacles.

“Be Like A Child”

“Be like a child, behold the universe”

This is an original mantra that came to Miriam, G-Creature and Farley one night, intended to honor the inner child within all of us. Can we remember the time when we were children, looking wide-eyed into the awesomeness of creation? We should like recapture that feeling of astonishment and wonder today, every day as adults. The universe is still just as awesome as it was back then, if we take a moment to open our eyes wide again. Let’s remember what it was like to be a child and sing this mantra and meditate on the innocence and wonder of a young child. can we look for this part of us exists deep inside and encourage and make peace with this often lost part of us?

Featuring Miriam’s vocals, G-Creature’s innovative ukulele harmonics, Kaze’s crystal harp, and Zen-like rhythms, this mantra weaves a dream cloak over us as we revisit the childlike feelings of wonder as we behold the universe.

“Zambo”

Zambo comes from deep in Africa from One Love member Kaze’s home in Cameroon. This mantra is traditionally sung by a group together, with drums. The chorus continues to repeat the name of Zambo while individuals communicate with Zambo any way that comes to them, in pleas, shouts, screams, language and wordless expression.

As Kaze says about “Zambo”,

When we do Zambo, we speak to the Almighty, what is your struggle, what do you want the almighty to do to you, you speak and take all your time. When you have nothing to say, you can cry and shout, make the almighty feel your presence. Sometimes people shout, when you want the Almighty to know your presence, you say “you are the one who put me here, you are the Almighty, I’m here, I’m here!”

“Aad Such, Jugaad Such”

Aad Such, Jugaad Such, Hai Bhee Such Nanak Hosee Bhee Such”

Another mantra from the Kundalini tradition, this mantra is about truth. This mantra means “True in the beginning, true throughout the ages, true even now, Nanak says the truth will always be.”

Nanak was the founder of the Sikh religion and the first of the Sikh 10 gurus and lived in the 15th century. This very old mantra is said to be the first that Nanak taught his followers and is a powerful way to connect to our truth and cut out what is not true.

With Zen Koan-like quality, this mantra features Seraphim’s vocals, a slightly quirky rhythm, crystal bowls and tingshas confirming the timelessness of truth and a herd of drums riding in to the picture and then back off into the timeless distance.

“Aad Guray Nameh”

“Aad Guray Nameh Jugaad Guray Nameh
Sat Guray Nameh
Siri Guru Dayvay Nameh”

This mantra comes to us from Kundalini and is a very powerful mantra used for clarity, protection and to connect us with inner wisdom and teaching. This is a good mantra to use before taking a trip, or to clear energy from the past, present, or future.

This is an ancient mantra but we bring a space age twist to our version. Featuring a very simple melody, the mantra gains strength and space as it goes, growing from a simple chant to a spacescape of epic proportions. Featuring Farley’s trumpet, Vera’s alien vocals, G-Creature’s synths and powerful chorus work from Seraphim, this is a powerful version of a powerful mantra.

“I Am the Infinite”

“I am the infinite within myself, I have no beginning and I have no end. All is Sat Nam.”

This mantra comes to use from deep in the recesses of memory of G-Creature, from some barely remembered yoga class from years ago. That one class, G-Creature remembers doing a mantra like this one, only one time, but he found it to be a very powerful experience. He reconstructed it the best we could from memory and it occurred to us that it would be good with an old school hip beat, and thus our first hip hop mantra was born:

This mantra is to encourage us to remember that we are infinite multidimensional beings whose existence does not begin or end with the life we are living now.Instead of identifying with the body and personality and accomplishments of this lifetime, we should remember our infinite true nature. “Sat Nam” means “True identity”.

This mantra features G-Creature’s solo hip hop vocals, beatbox, scratch, and solo shudraga (a Mongolian 3 stringed banjo that takes the role of the sitar. Gretchell Yaneza proves her own confident and sassy guest feature vocals, and the rest of the group takes an ensemble role repeating the chorus.

“Sa Ta Na Ma”

Our final mantra of the album is “Sa Ta Na Ma”. Coming to us from Kundalini, the mantra is also known as the “Kirtan Kriya” and is one of the most powerful and beautiful practices in Kundalini. Yogi Bhajan said that even if all other teaching from Kundalini was lost, practice of this mantra alone would be enough to save humanity. This mantra has been studied by _______

“Sa Ta Na Ma” is about the eternal cycle of birth, life, death, and rebirth. The mantra is sung, then whispered, then done silently, then whispered, then sung again. This mantra can be done with different time intervals, and in our version each section is 3 minutes long for a total time of 15 minutes.

Here are some more instructions for the Kirtan Kriya from Guru Rattana, Ph.D:

Kirtan Kriya, often referred to as SA TA NA MA meditation, is the most important meditation in Kundalini Yoga. It was one of the first meditations taught by Yogi Bhajan and remains today as a foundation meditation recommended for every student. Yogi Bhajan said that if you can do only one meditation, this is it.
SA TA NA MA incorporates the nuclear sounds of SAT NAM. SA TA NA MA uses the primal sounds to connect us to the evolutionary nature of existence itself. It is referred to as the panch shabd, which means a mantra with five sound currents. The fifth sound is “A.” When we chant SA TA NA MA we imprint the evolutionary code of the universe into our human psyche.

SA is the beginning, infinity, the totality of everything that ever was, is or will be.

TA is life, existence and creativity that manifests from infinity.

NA is death, change and the transformation of consciousness.

MA is rebirth, regeneration and resurrection which allows us to consciously experience the joy of the infinite.

SA TA NA MA is so primal that its impact on our psyche is like splitting an atom. The power of his mantra comes from the fact that it rearranges the subconscious mind at the most elementary level. It has the power to break habits and addictions because it accesses the level of the mind where habits are created.

Directions:

Sit with a straight spine. Bring your mental focus to the brow point.

Chant SA TA NA MA. While chanting alternately press the thumb with the four fingers. Press hard enough to keep yourself awake and aware of the pressure. Keep repeating in a stable rhythm and keep the hand motion going throughout the whole meditation.

SA press the thumb and the first or Jupiter finger together with pressure.

TA press the thumb and the middle or Saturn finger together.

NA press the thumb and the ring or Sun finger together.

MA press the thumb and the small or Mercury finger together.

Each time you close a mudra by joining the thumb with a finger, your ego “seals” its effect in your consciousness.

Visualize or feel each individual sound come in the crown chakra at the top of the head, down through the middle of the head and out to infinity through the third eye. This is very important and must be done with each sound. It is an essential part of the cleansing process. If this part of the meditation is not done, you may experience a headache.

While doing the meditation, you may experience pictures of the past come up like on a movie screen in your mind. Let them dance in front of your eyes and release them with the mantra. This is part of the cleansing of the subconscious mind. If emotions come up, you can also incorporate them in the chanting, i.e. if you feel anger then chant out the anger. Whatever you experience is OK. Do not try to avoid or control your experiences. Simply be with what is going on and go through it. It is all part of the cleansing process.

“Heartspeace”

From One Love’s new release, Mantras and Incantations Vol 1, the final bonus track Heartspeace is a crystal bowl meditation performed by Paramgian with birdsong and ocean sounds recorded on Lamma Island, Hong Kong. This meditation is for deep relaxation, energy balancing and bringing awareness to the heart center.
